International Water Safety Day is designed to help spread global awareness of the ongoing drowning pandemic, and educate the youth in becoming safer in and around water. May 15th is a day to spread drowning awareness and water safety education by any means possible. The lack of water safety education has propelled drownings worldwide. Through interdependence, we can change that.
We are in the midst of a global drowning pandemic.
According to the World Health Organization, * A staggering 372,000 people lose their lives to drowning each year.
* Every hour, every day, more than 40 people lose their lives to drowning;
* 372,000 people drown each year, with those under 5 years old at g

Collier County celebrated #InternationalWaterSafetyDay at many locations including Collier County Public School District.
The Collier County Public School District and NCH Safe & Healthy Children’s Coalition have partnered with US Coast Guard Flotilla 93, Greater Naples Fire Rescue District, Collier County Sheriff’s Office and Collier County Parks & Recreation – Golden Gate Aquatics to raise awareness by teaching the children the different aspects of water safety like: Never Swim Alone, Think Don’t Sink, Learn to Swim, Wear a Life Jacket if you cannot swim or are on a boat, what to do in a water emergency, etc. #IWSD #watersafety #drowningawareness #notonemoredrowning #neverswimalone International Water Safety Foundation Special thanks to Tracy Bowen-Brown, Coordinator, K-12 Health, Physical and Driver Education from Collier County Public Schools for developing this amazing water safety lesson.
