Giving Tuesday (or as the social media stratosphere recognizes it: #GivingTuesday) is a day of the year that was conceived in 2012 to gain the same momentum of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday all in the name of charitable giving. Since its inception, Giving Tuesday has been a growing success and one that has supported some truly tremendous nonprofit foundations.
Here at the NCH Safe & Healthy Children’s Coalition of Collier County, we are beyond appreciative of those who tirelessly support our programming efforts. Though financial support is always needed, giving is not exclusively a monetary commitment. We have many loyal donors who give to us in the form of their time, skills, resources and loyal support. And we are beyond thankful for each and every one of them.
On Thanksgiving we had a truly wonderful time at the Gobble Gobble Four Miler. This event is a beautiful run through Venetian Village that benefits both St. Matthews House and our very own 95210 Kids on the Go! program. This race had over 1500 participants who all paid to wake up well before dawn to run four miles on a day when most of the country is sleeping in…all in the name of charity. If that’s not a great way to kick off the giving season, the I don’t know what is.
Feel like giving back this weekend? The Collier County Public Schools 5K is 8am on Saturday 12/5 at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Administration Building with proceeds supporting many school programs.
Ciclovia at Immokalee Community Park will also be on Saturday 12/5 at 10am and we could always use some volunteers to come out and support activities for our community’s children and their parents!
