Newest Edition of Coalition Prescription Water Safety Booklets Available

IMG_8221We just received our shipment of the newest edition of the Water Smart Prescription Booklets both in English and Spanish. We feel this latest version is a truly useful resource for families to help prevent the leading cause of death for children 1-4 in Collier County.

Many Collier County pediatricians distribute these ‘prescription’ booklets containing valuable water safety information at yearly well visits for children 1-4 years old. Have you seen them?

Some of the improvements to point out:
1) if the parent brings the booklet to one the certified aquatic facilities or certified programs listed they may be eligible for a discount. Several centers did state that they would offer 10-20% discounts on the first set of swimming lessons. Parents also can still apply for financial assistance and these forms are located in the drowning prevention section of the Coalition’s website

2) A comprehensive water safety checklist for caregivers to follow including a QR code that will direct parents to a new set of videos on how to escape a sinking car using a ResqMe tool type device.

3) An excellent “Laypersons CPR” bifold that can be removed from the pamphlet and taped to the caregiver’s refrigerator on how to administer CPR to adults, children and infants. There is also a list of places around town that offer CPR classes and a QR code that can be scanned and take parents to our website where there is a short video on infant/ child CPR in English and Spanish

4) A more comprehensive water safety lessons listing, including the certified water safety-based program called Baby Otters.

Special thanks to the following agencies for making this #watersmartbabies booklets possible:
21st Century Oncology
Broward County Drowning Prevention Task Force
Joe DiMagio Children’s Hospital
