Thanks to a tremendous $2,000 donation from the Rusty Staub Foundation, the NCH Safe & Healthy Children’s Coalition was able to purchase 610 pool door / window alarms to distribute across Collier County for families in need. This initiative is in close partnership with The Florida Department of Health in Collier County, The Florida Department of Family and Children, The Collier County Sheriff’s Office, Healthy Start of Southwest Florida, The Early Learning Coalition of Southwest Florida, Just Against Children Drowning and North Collier Fire Rescue.
All doors or windows leading to any bodies of water, including lakes, canals, ponds, oceans and puddles, should have an audible alarm to determine when they are open. Alarms are needed even if access to water is not visible from the home. Alarms are just one of the many layers of protection that are needed to prevent drowning. Supervise children at all times, get children enrolled in swim lessons early and often, get adults and caretakers trained in CPR, and always be sure to have adequate fencing and self-closing, self-locking gates and doors.
We are beyond thankful for this generous gift and we hope to grow this initiative annually. A brief press conference will take place today, March 3rd, at 2pm at the NCH Garden of Hope and Courage. We invite any and all to attend.
